Thing 30 The End

Boy, there sure is a lot of technology going on out there. Who knew you could do so much on the computer.

Some of the exercises I couldn't get into or when I followed the instructions wouldn't work. So I did have to ask for assistance. I do better with step by step instructions to follow when I am not familiar with something or have no idea what I am doing.

We were given instructions that we were expected to complete this, it was not a choice.

Thing 29 Learning 2.0

I did like creating my blog and with help adding a picture to brighten it up. I also like going into YouTube on worktime and seeing some of the wild and crazy things on that site. I alos think LibraryThing is interesting. As far as MySpace, Tecnorati and some others that don't appeal to me I am not really interested.

I did like going in and looking at other blogs. Some of them are so creative. I thought Sense & Sensibility was a great blog! Great pictures and I just love that story!

I thought Dragonfly was great. My favorite colors and as soon as the blog came up I knew whose it was. Great job Titan!

Problems with dogs: I also knew whose blog this was as soon as it came up. What a cute picture of the terror of the house.

Thing 14 Reader's Advisory Wiki

I haven't actually read a book for pleasure in so long I can't even remember what the last one was, so I chose one I did for the Waves, Words, and Wonders storytime we had here at OF. I did have to ask for help about how to add my review to the site.

Thing 28 Rollyo

I created a search roll for Crafts & Activities (kids) and one for Recipes. I can see where this would be helpful to just go here to sites you have used over and over and found the information you were looking for.

Thing 27 LibraryThing

I had looked at this site in one of the exercises before and found it fascinating. I did create an account and added five titles I find interesting.

Thing 26 Image generator

http://www.dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/games/career/html/questions.html

I did find this particular one interesting. I found it from the subject listing on The Generator Blog.

Thing 25 podcasts and video

I did listen to Baby Duck in the Rain from one of the pod sites however I would prefer to see the pages of the book as opposed to the swirling images on the computer. I guess if this was a child's only type of exposure to books (which I would find hard to believe, okay. Otherwise I prefer actually sitting down with the child and book and reading a much more rewarding experience for all concerned. As far as video is concerned I can understand that better as you are actually seeing something.

Thing 24 Podcasts

Well, I couldn't get to the Podcast tutorial. Also everything I tried to go into was soooo slow. I did listen to Russell Crowe for 52 seconds. However, I am just not interested in this aspect. As I have stated before I have no computer at home and I can't see me listening to podcasts at work unless it was for work.

Thing 23 part 2

I tried to follow the instructions given, but that didn't work right. Luckily I had someone who could help me with this one. I just loved this You Tube video of these two cats!

Thing 23

Thing 22

I went in and looked around. I love the librarian Trading Cards. Some of them are a Hoot!

Flickr tagging Thing 21

I like the list of the all time most popular tags. I also found the Ten Ways to Use Flickr in Your Libraries interesting.

I can see why tagging is important so you can locate photos that might interest you by using the tag words. As for community the Tens Ways to Use Flickr in Your Libraries would go right along with that.

Flickr Thing 20

I don't own a digital camera and I don't have a computer at home so right now I don't see me doing any of this. I did go in and take the tour, but without Diane giving me her Flickr info how would we download anything when you have to have the person's pemission.

Web 2.0 Awards Thing 19

This was very interesting. I went into Biblio.com for out of print books and found it easy to understand. We do get customers asking for different places to locate out of print titles.

I also went into LibraryThing.com. I took the little tour and it also looks like an interesting site. It's easy to sign up, you can create a catalog of your titles and you can connect with people all over who are interested in the same type of reading that you like.

Tecnorati Thing 18

I found this very confusing, maybe I just don't know how to navigate the sight. I did find 22,865 blog posts for Learning 2.0.

Del.icio.us Thing 17

I think I am going to need some extra help on this. I know other staff have used this and love it, but I am having a little trouble understanding it exactly. If it really does do what it says in all the literature it is a great thing to have all that information at your fingertips.

MySpace Thing 16

I did the MySpace tour as I am not interested in setting up an account. I don't have a computer at home and I usually talk to and see my friends personally.

Social Networking Thing 15

If VBPL does eventually use a social networking site, are there legal issues that we need to address or that may become a problem if something goes wrong?

I am apprehensive about social networking; online safety, what kids talk about online and with who, pictures and info posted and who is looking at and reading that information. The percentages listed about what they do on line, how accurate are they? Some kids may not be honest about what they do on line.

Thing 13

Not knowing much about Wikis it is interesting and helpful that they can be used by groups, businesses, etc. to set up schedules, conferences, staff communication or just personal communication. These are just a few of the many, many things that can be done.

Libraries can use them for book reviews, Reader's Advisoryand teams could use them to communicate thoughts, ideas, plans & schedules.

Thing 12

This seems to be the way the world is moving. It is real time communication and you can communicate with a number of people at the same time. It is wonderful that we are offering virtual library services for our customers.

Thing 11

We have been using IM to answer questions from customers for a few weeks now, but I am not sure how well it has caught on. I have done it several times and haven't had any "real customer" questions yet. It seems to me if people have access to the internet they would use that to try to locate the information they are looking for. Perhaps that is why we have't had as many questions. Of course we are there ready to go if they cannot locate what they are looking for.
